VisionTV Has a New Vicar

Emma Chambers and Dawn French in "The Vicar of Dibley"

Emma Chambers (Alice Tinker) and Dawn French (Geraldine Granger)

VisionTV will be airing the award-winning The Vicar of Dibley Mondays at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT starting January 2.

Dawn French, one of Britain’s favourite comediennes, won the British Comedy Best Actress Award for her vivacious vicar in this very popular sitcom set in a beautiful village in the English countryside. It is written by Richard Curtis (Blackadder, Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Paul Mayhew-Archer (Miranda, Grownups).

Geraldine, recently ordained, needs all her diplomatic skills to deal with the village idiots and eccentrics that make up her congregation. All seven of them.  David Horton (Gary Waldhorn, Brush Strokes), is the only other person in Dibley with a full complement of brain cells. Unfortunately, he is head of the Parish Council and does not approve of women in collars.

The rest of the Parish includes:

Hugo Horton, David’s son (James Fleet, Coronation Street), – the sweetest-natured man in the world, with the fewest academic qualifications.

Alice Tinker (Emma Chambers, Notting Hill) – the very, very, very keen verger, with a
brain almost the size of a jelly bean.

Mrs Cropley (Liz Smith, The Royle Family) – in charge of the church flower arrangements and a dangerously experimental cook – chocolate slice with taramasalata is a specialty.

Frank Pickle (John Bluthal, Never Mind the Quality), – the most pedantic man in the
village, with the tidiest moustache. He takes the Parish Council minutes.

Jim Trott (Trevor Peacock, Fred Claus), – Dibley’s oldest resident, most trusted vegetable expert and the most indecisive man in the world.  Catchphrase: No, no, no… yes.

Owen Newitt (Roger Lloyd-Pack, Only Fools and Horses) – a foul-mouthed local farmer with plenty of opinions and plenty of trouble with his lower intestine.

The Vicar of Dibley airs Mondays at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT starting January 2.
