Biblical Forensics: A New Series Bringing Biblical Faces Back to Life

The new four-part series Biblical Forensics: Real Faces of the Bible premieres Monday, April 8 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on VisionTV. Airs Mondays throughout April.

What did the Biblical seductress Delilah really look like? Is it possible to see the face of a man who listened to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount? These are a few of the exciting mysteries revealed in a new four-part TV series, Biblical Forensics: Real Faces of the Bible, the latest offering from Toronto-based Associated Producers (The Lost Tomb of Jesus, The Naked Archaeologist, The Exodus Decoded). Having been granted unprecedented access to four ancient skulls from the Holy Land, each episode seeks to accurately reconstruct a “biblical” face for the first time ever.

Using a blend of myth-busting archaeology, dramatic recreations and 21st century forensic science, we see for the very first time the reconstructed face of a Philistine woman who lived at the time of Delilah, the biblical femme fatale who has inspired many a painter and Hollywood casting agent. We also see the reconstructed face of a sacrificial victim “brought to life” – a baby found in a millennia old Canaanite jar. The following episode unveils the face of a 6000 year-old man from pre-Canaanite times who was given a special burial in a remote desert cave. Finally, for the first time ever, viewers will have the very rare opportunity to see the reconstructed face of a Galilean man who lived in a region strongly associated with the ministry of Jesus, and was likely one of his followers.

Because of religious sensibilities, it is very difficult to do forensic work on human remains excavated in Israel. Utilizing CAT scans and other cutting edge 3D technologies, forensic anthropologists, doctors and police facial reconstruction experts have been able to respect those sensibilities by minimizing the need to handle the skulls of the deceased. The results are extraordinarily life-like.

Hosted by David Berman of the hit forensic drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Biblical Forensics takes viewers into an unforgettable journey of discovery to come face to face with four remarkable depictions of characters from the biblical era.

VisionTV will present the North American premiere of the four-part television series Biblical Forensics: Real Faces of the Bible beginning on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 9:00 PM ET.

“This is a first,” said producer Simcha Jacobovici. “We actually ‘resurrect’ a man carbon dated to the time of Jesus. He’s a Galilean. If Jesus was a well known miracle worker, this man knew him, and now we can look at his face. We resurrect a sacrificial victim, an ancient warrior and a Philistine woman that lived at the time of Delilah. Archaeology doesn’t get more exciting than these unprecedented Biblical forensics.”

Biblical Forensics: Real Faces of the Bible was produced with the participation of the Rogers Cable Network Fund, the Rogers Documentary Fund and Rogers Telefund, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit. Simcha Jacobovici is the producer; Moses Znaimer is the Executive Producer for VisionTV.
