What if you looked through the most famous glasses in the world? That’s the question posed by celebrity photographer Christopher Ameruoso and Priscilla Presley in their new, collaborative book, Shades of Elvis. On the heels of its official release, and en route to the Collingwood Elvis Festival – the largest gathering of the King’s fans and tribute artists in the world – Priscilla made a hotly anticipated appearance at our Zoomerplex in Toronto’s Liberty Village on June 24.
With her was Ameruoso, whose longstanding desire to honour Elvis inspired the project. Things took off during a photo shoot with Priscilla, when he shared his vision for a book of iconic personalities donning the singer’s equally recognizable sunglasses. Over two years of photographing later, he said that the greatest challenge was scheduling the many (many!) artists that wanted to be a part of the book.
“The respect is just unbelievable, in how he’s affected artists, musicians, everybody,” he said. “Everyone attributes their career to Elvis carving that path and making way for everybody to do what they want to do.”

Over eighty celebrities were photographed wearing the signature shades, with each of their entries accompanied by a quote about their personal connection to Elvis’s legacy. It’s a fitting way to capture the undiminished star power of one of pop culture’s most enduring figures, as high profile A-Listers demonstrated reverence for the glasses and the career they represented.
That sentiment wasn’t lost on the crowd of fans (many of whom had been Elvis fans for decades) lined up to see them meet with AM740 ZoomerRadio’s Happy Gang to share stories about the book’s creation, and is part of the reason Priscilla believes the book will help a younger audience connect to Elvis’s work.
“He’s touched people through his songs, because you got to know him better, ” she said. “People have a very close, intimate feeling for Elvis and his music, and the person that he was, and it continues.”
