VisionTV Presents The North American Premiere of a Major Television Event
THE GREAT FIRE
This 4-part epic drama series starts Wednesday, March 11 at 9pm ET
The date is September 2, 1666. Time, 1am. On the hottest night of the year, in the poorest quarter of London, Thomas Farriner, widower and humble baker to King Charles II, forgets to close his ovens in a bakery on Pudding Lane. An ember ignites a small fire and the dramatic events that ensue are the inspiration behind The Great Fire, the 4-part British miniseries receiving its North American premiere on Wednesday, March 11 at 9pm ET only on VisionTV.
Praised for its visual brilliance and stunning pyrotechnics, The Great Fire recreates Restoration Era London, including the King’s decadent court. The series chronicles the historical disaster over the four days the terrible blaze raged, and the heart-wrenching stories of a city in crisis.

As citizens desperately attempt to overcome the flames, public order breaks down, mobs roam the streets, looting is widespread, and the capital is gridlocked. Meanwhile, in the palace of Whitehall, King Charles II enjoys his many spoils and women in full view of his wife, the Queen, until a terrifying assassination attempt stokes fears of a larger Catholic plot in the works. Before long, events in the city will force him into a battle to save his country’s burning capital.
The Great Fire captures one of the world’s greatest disasters. The devastation was staggering. Ultimately, the fire left 80 percent of London in ruin and 70,000 homeless. In a time before cameras or journalists, The Great Fire places viewers in the shoes of those whose lives are turned upside down by events they cannot foresee or control.
“I certainly feel some of my journalistic experience was put to use. I’ve been shot in a riot and know what that kind of fear and chaos feels like, and long days spent in civil disorder in cities as diverse as Belfast and Jakarta have left me with a lifelong fear of crowds, particularly in circumstances when the green light for anarchy is flashing hard,” said writer (and ITV News Political Editor) Tom Bradby.
The Great Fire is an epic period piece filled with timeless and contemporary themes and in many ways, reminds us how history continues to repeat itself.
