Aidan Turner - Poldark - Season 2

In a story that refuses to go away, multiple press outlets are under the belief that Poldark’s leading man, Aidan Turner, could become the next James Bond. Currently, Daniel Craig has the honour of portraying the legendary 007.

Although the idea of Turner taking a turn as Bond has been pulsating for a while now, rumblings hit a fever pitch last Friday (March 11) during the Broadcasting Press Guild awards in London. Here, Poldark series producer Karen Thrusell accepted Turner’s Breakthrough Award on his behalf. Of Turner’s absence, Thrusell said:“I am sure it is nothing to do with James Bond, but we will see.”

The Sun reports that Thrusell is aware that Turner is currently in Los Angeles, while an anonymous source noted, “Aidan has held preliminary talks with Bond producers and being in L.A. will give him a further chance to discuss the role.”

Sean Connery - James Bond   James Bond - Pierce Brosnan

U.K. bookmaker William Hill recently unveiled odds regarding who it suspects will be the next Bond. Currently Tom Hardy (of “The Revenant”) is the leading candidate at 6/5, followed by Damian Lewis (of “Homeland”) and Idris Elba (of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”) at 5/1 odds each. Turner, meanwhile, came in fourth with 11/2 odds.

Before Craig, the James Bond character has been memorably played by the likes of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

Turner recently wrapped the filming of Poldark’s second season, which is set to premiere in the U.K. this autumn.

Do you think Turner should become the next James Bond?
