Fun Facts About Heartland’s Amber Marshall

On “Heartland,” London, Ontario-born actress Amber Marshall portrays Amy Fleming, a strong young woman who – along with her older sister Lou and grandfather Jack – operate the Heartland ranch, a place that provides care to troubled and neglected horses. Off screen, Amber isn’t much different from Amy.

While avid viewers of “Heartland” should have a pretty firm understanding of what Amy is about, we felt that it would be fun to learn more about the actress that brings the beloved rancher and rider to life.

How Amber Began Acting

After appearing in a number of productions for The Original Kids Theatre in London, Ontario, Marshall enrolled in the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts. By 11, Marshall hired an agent and got her career rolling.

The Big Break 

While Marshall’s first principle role was that of Ally on YTV’s “Super Rupert” (2001), her first truly big break was when she was cast in the title role of 2003’s “The Elizabeth Smart Story.” Marshall’s performance as an abducted young woman landed her a nomination for the Los Angeles-based Young Artist Award for Best Actress in a Movie.”

Amber’s Love for Animals

Like her Heartland character, Marshall lives in Alberta and runs her own ranch. Marshall’s property features numerous dogs, cats, cows, bunnies and hens (including one named Dolly Parton) running around the land.

In the Papers 

In addition to acting, Marshall also flexes her creative muscles by serving as the publisher and primary writer for her own magazine, “Amber Marshall Life & Style.”

Taking it Outside 

When not busy acting, running a magazine, or managing her ranch, Marshall likes to spend her free time fishing, trail riding and camping. She’s also not opposed to taking snowmobile trips to the mountains during winter months.

Staying Social 

Marshall has a heavy-duty social media presence, with more than 117,000 followers on Facebook and more than 53,000 people sticking by her side on Twitter. Marshall regularly updates these folks about happenings in her personal life, as well as what’s going on with “Heartland.”
