Jericho - Jessica Raine

On Tuesday, September 6, VisionTV will proudly premiere “Jericho,” a British period drama that follows Annie Quintain (played by Jessica Raine of “Call the Midwife”), a woman left Penniless following the death of her husband. With little in her pockets, Annie takes her children on the search for a fresh start, before eventually setting up shop in the Shantytown of Jericho.

“At its heart, [‘Jericho’ is] about a woman’s journey from one way of life to another,” explains series director Paul Whittington. “We follow Annie, whose life in comfortable, middle class Yorkshire has been turned upside down. She’s been plunged into an alien world – it’s the story of her survival.”

Upon her arrival in Jericho, Annie finds herself in a community where the construction of a viaduct is the primary focus. How will she mesh with the navvies, pioneers, prostitutes and vagabonds that surround her? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

“Jericho is a true story,” said series writer, Steve Thompson. “It’s based on a real place called Jericho, which was in Ribblehead in the North Yorkshire moors. When they were building the railways across Yorkshire, these little shantytowns appeared [for] the men building the railways to live in – they were taming the frontier up in Yorkshire in the 1870s.”

Our airing of the first season of “Jericho” runs from September 6 through October 25. Click here for a detailed look at the season ahead, as well as a gorgeous photo slideshow.
