Freemasonry is considered the world's oldest fraternal order. Its members through the ages have included presidents, prime ministers, movie stars and musical luminaries, and the carefully cultivated air of mystery that surrounds Masonic rituals has made the order a favourite target of conspiracy theorists not to mention Da Vinci Code novelist Dan Brown, who plans to devote his next best-seller to Freemasonry. In this hour-long documentary, which includes rare footage of secret Masonic rites, Halifax filmmaker and Freemason John Wesley Chisholm offers an insider's look at a centuries-old brotherhood struggling to find a place in the contemporary world. Many devout Evangelical Christians believe Jesus Christ will soon return, and that Israel plays a pivotal role in the unfolding of Biblical prophecy. Believers who share this apocalyptic vision are among Israel's fiercest political supporters, and many Jews welcome such expressions of solidarity. Others, however, question the motives of so-called Christian Zionists. This documentary by Martin Himel ( Confrontation at Concordia ) examines the complex and potentially combustible relationship between Christian and Jewish Zionists. [more] |

St. Stephen-in-the-Fields is a historic Anglican church in Toronto's Kensington Market. With its three culturally diverse congregations and its programs for the homeless, the church is an integral part of its community. But it's also sitting on a prime piece of urban real estate at a time when the Anglican Church of Canada faces a financial crisis. When the Diocese of Toronto told parishioners in October 2004 that they must pay off a massive debt or face closure, the news sent shock waves through the congregation. In this two-part documentary, filmmaker Robin Benger chronicles the desperate struggle to save a doomed church. He follows the story for a full year, examining in intimate detail the players, the personality clashes and the politics and eventually becomes part of events himself. [more] |

Secret Files of the Inquisition
Series has concluded |
| It was a reign of terror that would endure for more than 600 years. Established by Pope Gregory IX in 1233, the Inquisition sought to enforce Catholic orthodoxy and stamp out heresy, subjecting thousands across Europe to arrest, torture, secret trial and public execution. In 1998, the Vatican opened the Inquisition archives to scholars for the first time. This four-part docudrama draws upon these documents to present an extraordinary account of perhaps the darkest chapter in Christianity's history. Filmed in High Definition on location in Italy, France and Spain, the series features detailed recreations of pivotal events, as well as first-person testimonies taken directly from the secret files.
