Helmed by acclaimed, Academy Award nominated, Australian-born Director, Bruce Beresford Black Robe tells the raw and powerful story of the clash of cultures between the French settlers of 17th century Canada and the Alqonquin people.

Based on the best-selling novel by Brian Moore, Black Robe tells the story of Father Laforgue (Lothaire Bluteau), an ambitious, young Jesuit who sets out on a mission to save the souls of the ‘savages’ of New France. He sets out on a journey into the wild with a group of Algonquins as his guides and a young French interpreter to make contact with a Jesuit mission deep in Huron territory.

The expedition into Canada’s majestic North country is fraught with danger and overwhelming challenges, and causes Laforgue to question his own convictions and existence, while his interpreter companion adapts to the ways of the First Nations people. (1991)
