Alan regains consciousness, and he and Celia set a date for their wedding. Alan plays down his condition, even though his doctors have told him that he won’t survive another heart attack. Things between Caroline and John continue to devolve, and Gillian and Alan’s relationship also takes a hit when some startling news comes to light.

Gillian lashes out at Celia, further upsetting her father. Both Alan and Celia realize that they’ll have to help their daughters financially, as Raff prepares to leave for school and Caroline makes plans to buy John out of the house. Caroline’s relationship with Kate continues to evolve.

Alan and Celia begin to think seriously about purchasing a place of their own to live in, as things between them and Gillian remain icy. Caroline plans to go away for a few nights for Kate’s birthday, and begins to understand just how seriously her girlfriend is taking their new life together.

Celia is disturbed after a meeting with Judith. Gillian and Alan manage to draw a line under the tension that’s been mounting, but Judith manages to stir up more conflict when Robbie learns of John and Gillian’s one night stand.

Celia reluctantly introduces Alan to her sister, and Caroline receives some surprising news from Kate. Caroline and Gillian manage to relax at the farm, and Gillian shares some sensitive information with her new step-sister.
