In addition to charismatically presenting “Kirstie’s Crafty Christmas” and “Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas,” Kirstie Allsopp has made a name for herself as a property hunting aficionado, a keen craftswoman and the author of multiple lifestyle books. But, there is way more Allsopp than meets the eye.
A Royal Presence
Some may view Allsopp as the Queen of Craftiness or Duchess of Design, but she did have a true royal experience in 2012: interviewing Prince Charles on behalf of Good Housekeeping magazine. Here, Allsopp was invited to the future King’s Highgrove home, where the two would discuss art, avid reading, as well as his children Prince William and Prince Harry.
Creating Change Through Charities
In addition to interviewing Prince Charles, Allsopp plays a role in his charity, The Prince’s Foundation for Building Communities, an organization dedicated to enabling “under-used or redundant historic buildings to perform a new function, unlocking a regeneration of the wider community.” Allsopp also supports initiatives like the Keep Britain Tidy environmental charity, as well as Home-Start UK, a group that offers assistance to families struggling through tough times.
From a Screen Test to a TV Match Made in Heaven
If you have watched previous Allsopp specials, you’ve been lucky enough to meet her darling TV husband, Phil Spencer. Allsopp met Spencer as she was being screen-tested for a new property show. Allsopp (who has been hosting Location, Location, Location with Spencer since 2000) has noted that the two of them “instantly hit it off” and all these years later still “love working together.”
Classified Information, you say?
Before Allsopp launched into stardom, she got her feet wet selling classified space for Country Living Magazine. Said Allsopp of that job: “I honed my negotiating skills, putting me in a great place to follow my dreams.” This experience would help pave the way for Allsopp and her friend Miranda to found the Kirmir property search company in 1996.
Helping Others Hunt Homes
Speaking of property searching, Allsopp and Spencer are the stars of the Kirstie and Phil’s House Hunter mobile app. Here, the duo provides homebuyers with a “foolproof guide” geared toward helping them find the home of their dreams. The app contains video guides and audio tips, as well as detailed sections devoted to information about finance, mortgages and how to handle real estate agents.
