With today being World Water Day, it’s important to remember that not everyone is equally blessed with filtered, clean water that’s safe for drinking, using with food, or even bathing in. Fortunately, Samaritan’s Purse Canada, a Christian relief and development organization, is on the case and continually hoping to raise funds and awareness for regions of the globe subjected to unsafe water.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada is located in Calgary, Alberta and has been constructing and installing BioSand Filters (an invention that uses layers of sand, gravel, and naturally occurring micro-organisms to transform contaminated water into safe water in seconds) since the 1990s. In all, the charity has helped provide safe water to nearly 1.5 million people across 14 countries, including Cambodia, Nicaragua, Philippines, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Overall, almost 30 Samartian Filters – thanks to many volunteer teams – have been built.

As you could imagine, providing such a crucial service for those throughout the world can be a costly endeavour, hence the need for Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s Turn on the Tap fundraising initiative designed to get more filtration endeavours developed.

“Unfortunately, almost 663 million other people are still struggling to survive — with someone dying every 24 seconds — while drinking contaminated water,” reads a statement found at TurnOnTheTap.ca.

To reach those 663 million people, Samaritan’s Purse Canada is turning to you for help. Each $25 donation to the charity can enable one child to have access to a Samaritan Filter, while a $150 donation can provide safe water to an entire family. For Canadian schools, community groups, or churches looking to make a larger contribution to the cause, a $10,000 donation would allow an entire school to access quality water.

“We thank God for this life-saving filter technology and for the financial and prayer support from Canadians that enable us to provide households – and now entire schools and villages – with safe waters,” comments Fred Weiss, Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s Executive Director.
