In “Jericho,” actor Hans Matheson portrays Johnny Jackson, a strapping, mysterious man who has made his way to the Shantytown of Jericho thus far for reasons unknown. What we can tell about Johnny thus far, however, is that he is a candid, self-assured individual that’s willing to work and put the needs of others ahead of his own.

After becoming a boarder within the cabin of fellow new arrival, Annie [Jessica Raine], Johnny quickly assumes the role of protector. In front of him he sees a family forced to adjust to a lifestyle they never expected to endure. They may be grandly out of their element, but Johnny is doing his best to keep them safe and sound.

Despite all of this, there may be more to Johnny than meets the eye.

“[Johnny’s] a good person, but he has done bad things in his life and so he carries these secrets around with him and feels that he’s not good enough,” explained Matheson in an interview with Luxury London. “We’d all like to be filled with joy and happiness, but it’s just not the truth. We all have a dark side and it’s lovely when you can explore that through drama. I think light coming through the darkness is the most wonderful thing in the world.”

Jericho S1E2 – Tuesday, September 12 at 8pm ET/5pm PT: In her desperation to protect her son, Annie unwittingly opens the door for Bamford, the railway detective who has returned to Jericho looking for Red Killeen, to get dangerously close to her family and the secret they hoped was dead and buried.  Coates, who also stands to lose everything if Bamford uncovers the truth, looks ready to go to extreme lengths to stop him.
