In episode nine of 50 Ways to Kill Your Mum, 90210 star Jennie Garth and her daughter Luca are heading to Alaska for a week of snowy adventure. As a California girl who doesn’t even like drinking ice water, can Jennie brave the extreme cold for a chance to bond with her daughter?
Luca is Jennie’s eldest who’s just left home to go to college across the country. It’s been tough for Jennie to let go, so she’s looking forward to spending this time together – no matter how much she hates the cold. The only problem is Jennie loves being in control and isn’t quite ready to let her daughter take charge. And with a fear of doing anything remotely risky, it’s going to take a little push from Luca to get her mum on board with the adventure she has secretly planned.

“I would not define my mom as adventurous by any means,” says Luca. “My mom is scared of heights, she’s really scared of speed, and she’s scared of animals, biting her, eating her. She’s scared of death, basically. Anything that could get her closer to dying, she doesn’t really want to do.”
How dangerous is Luca planning on getting in the wintry wilds of Alaska and can Jennie trust her daughter’s perilous plan?
First, Luca takes Jennie deep into the woods for a crash course on dog sledding. With all the commands and important safety rules to remember, there’s no way Jennie is letting Luca drive the sled. But Luca’s not letting up. Can she get her mum to start trusting her?


Their journey through the woods isn’t over yet, and this time they’re going even faster. Luca and Jennie will explore the Alaskan tundra on snowmobiles. Not only does Jennie have some serious doubts about letting Luca do something so dangerous, but finding out they’ll ride across a frozen lake with possible thin ice has her ready to head back south.

Just when Jennie’s hoping that snowshoeing is their next challenge, Luca puts her mum’s stamina to the test with “fat biking” on a thick-wheeled bike that lets you ride through snow. Jennie immediately finds out that it’s about ten times harder to balance than a regular bike, and a few too many tumbles has her ready to call it quits. Can Luca convince Jennie to get back on the bike and tackle a big hill?



If Jennie thinks she’s been cold so far, she’s about to learn what it really means to freeze. The girls arrive to a frozen lake where they’ll participate in “Freezin’ for a Reason”, a fundraising event to support Special Olympics athletes. That’s right; Jennie and Luca will plunge into an ice-cold lake in freezing temperatures. Can Jennie face her worst nightmare to finish off their Alaskan adventure?
