We love our charismatic and clever female detectives here at VisionTV, particularly the ones who live in picturesque English villages, and we’re now adding three new members to the club with a wonderful new cozy mystery series we know you’ll love! Join us for our premiere presentation of The Marlow Murder Club Season 2, Wednesdays at 8pm ET / 5pm PT from Oct. 15 – Nov. 19, 2025. 

Adapted from author Robert Thorogood’s novel and first premiered  in the UK in October 2024, the series follows Judith Potts, a brilliant retired archeologist, played by UK National Television Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Samantha Bond, whom you’ll likely recognize from her role as Lady Rosamund Painswick on Downton Abbey. Judith lives alone in an old mansion in the peaceful town of Marlow and spends her time making crossword puzzles for national papers. When she hears a gunshot one night coming from her neighbours’ garden, she believes a murder has taken place and goes to the police, but they’re reluctant to believe her. However, Judith can’t let a mystery go unsolved, so she teams up with local dog walker and empty-nester Suzie Harris (Jo Martin), and vicar’s wife Becks (Cara Horgan), who bond over a shared interest in the case. 

When the trio uncovers a vital piece of evidence, they’re brought in by the newly promoted DS Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew) to assist  the investigation. As more bodies begin to pile up, the unlikely group of sleuths must use all of their skills to piece together clues, grill suspects, and face down real dangers as they race against the clock to stop the killer in their tracks.

While each episode in the series contains a captivating new case, the heart of the series lies in its loveable characters who feel like close friends. “I do think that she is my kind of a woman,” says Samantha Bond on her character, Judith. “I think I would really get on with her. We would have fun.” 

The actor was initially quite drawn to play this eccentric and thoughtful character who creates crosswords because she also loves solving crosswords and other puzzles. When it comes to the storylines of the series, she was impressed by writer Thorogood, who is also the series’ Executive Producer, and his ability to create complex mysteries that she herself couldn’t solve.

“What Robert Thorogood does is incredibly intricate and beautifully structured and in amongst that there’s humour and warmth from the very strong friendship between these women.”

Although the first episode kicks off with Judith and her interest in the initial case, the series evolves to be a true ensemble involving the three talented lead women, as well as Dew as DS Tanika Malik. All three amateur sleuths begin the series quite unsure of themselves and their place in the world, but working together to solve a mystery while their developing friendship brings them a new sense of purpose and belonging.

“It’s about loyalty, friendship, sisterhood,” says Jo Martin who stars as the gutsy Suzie Harris. “I loved how diverse all three characters are and how the writing found a way of getting them all together. It’s really clever. I felt like we were the middle-aged Charlie’s Angels.”
