In Normandy in 1944 more than a dozen young POWs are murdered by the infamous Nazi commander, Kurt Meyer. At a trial after the war, he is let off with a mere slap on the wrist, returning to his hometown a hero. This complex and provocative documentary examines the type of heinous behaviour which is condoned during the heat of battle and poses the larger and more universal question of whether or not guilt, in the matter of war crimes, is determined by who wins and who loses.
