British school teacher and recent widow, Anna Leonowens is sent to Siam to teach the royal children. But, she immediately clashes with their father, King Mongkut.

Her modern, Western ways don’t sit well with the ruler – but over time, he slowly gains respect for her willingness to stand up to him. And eventually that respect deepens into love.

Soon, Anna is the King’s confidant, and his advisor in diplomatic relations with the West. And she falls in love with him as well.
