The rumours may be flying, but it is still unclear whether or not “Poldark” lead actor, Aidan Turner, will become the next James Bond. What is clear, however, is that British television viewers love what Turner and his “Poldark” cast mates bring to the screen.
Last night at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) TV Awards, “Poldark” won the fan-voted Radio Times Audience Award. The series – which will return for a second season in the UK this fall and come back to Canadian airwaves afterward – came out ahead of “Doctor Foster,” “The Great British Bake Off,” “Humans,” “Making a Murderer” and “Peter Kay’s Car Share.”
Meanwhile, VisionTV fan favourite “EastEnders,” won the BAFTA TV Award for Soap and Continuing Drama. Other nominees in the category included “Coronation Street,” “Emmerdale” and “Holby City.”
The Leading Actress award was presented to Suranne Jones for her role in “Doctor Foster.” You may recall Jones’ powerful performance as Sister Joan Livesey in the World War 1 period drama, “The Crimson Field.”
Other winners included Mark Rylance (Lead Actor, “Wolf Hall”), Tom Courtenay (Supporting Actor, “Unforgotten”) and Chanel Cresswell (Supporting Actress, “This is England ‘90”).
“Wolf Hall” won a BAFTA TV Award for best Drama Series, while “Peter Kay’s Car Share” captured the crown for best Scripted Comedy.

Of course, the BAFTA TV Awards also made a big impression on social media. Here is a look at some of the most enjoyable posts:
