50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy

On Monday, September 5 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, VisionTV will kickoff its first brand new British Factual time slot with a hilarious bang, thanks to our North American premiere of the hit reality adventure series, “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy.”

In this weekly, hour-long affair, Irish television and radio personality, Baz Ashmawy, takes his 71-year-old mother, Nancy, around the world in an attempt to have her leap outside of her comfort zone and into unchartered territories. How does Baz get Nancy to do this? Well, let’s just say he somehow gets her to jump out of an airplane, participate in a rally car race across the desert and come face-to-face with alligator wrestling.

Along the way, Nancy exacts her own measures of revenge by tossing her son into a wrestling match that he has no chance of winning – she even gets to see how her pride and joy handles being tazered by his mammy.

Beyond the over-the-top activities that Baz and Nancy explore, “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy” also shines a light on the pair’s relationship and how their love for each other grows throughout their unusual journey.

As for how this show came to life, Baz admitted during a 2015 interview with the Irish Mirror that it came to life out of his mother’s sudden interest in going skydiving, as well as his desire to come up with an original travel show.

“It’s funny what you do out of desperation. I couldn’t get a gig at the time, I had been out of work for a year, two years nearly,” said Baz when describing the lead up to ’50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy.’ “Myself and my business partner formulated it together and sent a pilot to Sky and the rest is history. I was looking for a twist on the travel format and I was banging my head against the wall, saying this has been done, there’s nothing left.

“Then a nun had done a skydive and mum said to me that she’d love to do one and asked me to do one with her,” continued Baz. “I told her not to be soft in the head because she was too old to do one and she took umbrage at this.”

In 2015, “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy” won the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment award at the International Emmy Awards.
