Elton John

To most of us, legendary British musician Elton John is the crocodile rocker; the charismatic guide who gracefully takes us down the Yellow Brick Road; the voice that has made his song, your song. On Thursday, March 9, however, John proved that he’s not just a rocket man – he’s also a record man.

Currently on tour in British Columbia, John turned up at Beat Street Records in downtown Vancouver for a little shopping trip.

“I came in from the back and there was Elton John standing there with his two bodyguards, digging through records,” said Beat Street Records manager Lindsay Tomchyshen during an interview with the CBC. “They were big guys.”

The almost 70-year-old John soon made an unexpected request.

“He asked my boss if we had any Tech N9ne, like, the gangster rapper and I was not expecting that,” recalled Tomchyshen with a laugh.

Unfortunately, Beat Street Records didn’t have any Tech N9ne left in stock. Instead, John opted to purchase a collection of albums from 1980s British pop band, Scritti Politti.

Of the occasion, Tomchyshen revealed that John was in good spirits and posed for photos. He also signed a copy of “Yellow Brick Road” for the shop.Elton John

Good thing they had that album in stock, right?

Elton & His Band will perform on March 11 and 12 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, before continuing on a global tour that’ll run through December.

Be sure to join us Friday nights on VisionTV for a wide variety of magnificent music programming like “Songs of Praise,” “The Gaither Gospel Hour” and “God’s Greatest Hits.” Also, keep an eye out for special presentations of music documentaries!
